Lewis Hazelton

Associate dentist

I’m a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow) and Association of Dental Implantology. I’m a dentist with a special interest which is Implantology and (my best moment in my career so far) I have completed an MSC in Dental Implantology.

I used to work at a general dentistry practice but did an implant masters where Maria was my mentor.  Once she had an opening here, I followed her so she could continue to be my mentor.  The stuff that she does is amazing.

What’s great about Clinic 95 is that we’ve got a proper theatre here, and a lab.  It’s just another level, I would say the top level of dentistry - I would say it doesn’t get any better than this.  To do a full mouth, reconstruction and implants, surgery, cosmetics, occlusion, everything, that’s what Maria does and that’s why I came here.

I didn’t always think I’d be a dentist though.  I did work experience in engineering.  My Mum’s best friend was a dentist and I went along for a day of work experience there.  I found what she was doing fascinating and went back for more.  My whole career started right there. I ended up spending a lot of time there as you have to do a lot of work experience before going to dental school.

The best part of my job?  Patient satisfaction is key - you both want to be pleased with the outcome.  It’s the patients who make the job as good as it is.

My absolute best piece of advice I give to my patients?  Flossing every day is the key to happiness.

I think art qualifications should be mandatory for dentists!  You must have excellent dexterity and a bit of artistry to be a truly great dentist.  If I wasn’t a dentist, I think I’d have to be doing something with my hands - something creative like very fine woodworking maybe.

The most common question I get asked is “Where are you from?”  The correct answer is Glasgow.  But I’ve have been taken for South African, Polish, German, Australian, Kiwi, everything.

Did you know I’m an identical twin?  Yes, there are two of me.
And I’m starting a family of my own.  I have a 19 month-old son and second baby due later this year.

When I’m not at work I just love to spend time with my family.  I used to play a lot of rugby but I’m too old now, so instead I play golf (badly!).
